This tour offers you an unique opportunity of a glimpse into the glamorous world of Geisha in Kamishichiken, Kyoto's Oldest Hanamachi.
There are five hanamachi in Kyoto, namely Kamishichiken, Gion Koubu, Pontocho, Miyagawacho, and Gion Higashi also known as Gion Shirakawa. Despite being the oldest of the five, Kamishichiken is nowhere near as crowded as the other districts. Due to its remote location from the other geisha districts, it is the only one that offers its visitors a chance to enjoy the tranquil scenery without the hassle of the copious crowds.
Your tour starts with a visit to Kitano Tenmangu, the guardian shrine of the area.
What awaits you when you step into Kamishichiken is a truly authentic Nishijin weaving experience, using the most historic of all Nishijin brocade techniques, tsuzure-ori.
Enjoy an exquisite seasonal meal at a well-established traditional caterer and restaurant, which still delivers meals to the banquets with maiko and geiko. Then, it is time to take part in a completely private maiko experience at “Katsufumi”.
Lastly, you will get to enjoy an authentic tea ceremony at Tondaya, a Kyoto-style traditional house with over 150 years of history in the heart of the Nishijin area renowned for its traditional textile industry. Enjoying a lovely cup of matcha green tea and traditional sweets is a great way to conclude the tour rich in experiences related to the deep history of Kamishichiken and the intricacies of the geisha culture and customs.
